Tony's Room Makeover

On March 23, 2013 I participated in another room makeover for Designing 4 Hope.  This month's room was for a young man Tony and his 2 brothers, Ryan and Braden.

Here is Tony's Story:

TONY
Tony is 13 years old and was born with Friedreich’s Ataxia but was not diagnosed until age 7. There is no medicine he can take or cure for his condition however he goes to CHOP to a neurologist and does PT and OT through the Easter Seals. He has issues with his balance, but thankfully no other major struggles at this time.

Tony loves American History with a special interest in George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty and Mt. Rushmore. Tony's makeover has been scheduled for March 23rd and we are pleased to have volunteers from Vanguard join us again!

Everyone arrived by 9:00am and unloaded the truck contents to the front yard....

Mattresses and all sorts of things that need assembly...

This month we are redoing 3 rooms!!!  Tony requested an American History Room, Ryan wanted a "soccer" room and Braden is all about Superheroes and Thor!!

BRADEN'S ROOM
Braden's room "Before"

Braden received some new bedding, window treatments and lots of fun wall art!

Thor has arrived!!!

Chris doing his impression of Thor!!  I think he nailed it!!

Braden is loving his "new" room!!

Braden and his little friend...Such a sweet smile!!

RYAN'S ROOM

Meanwhile, in Ryan's room the volunteers were busy ironing the window treatments, putting up rods, installing shelves, etc...

More busy volunteers building and installing...

Floating shelves with turf were installed for various soccer balls...

Lots of building in the room...

I am so happy that Ginny could come today!  I haven't seen Ginny since High School (38 years ago!!) and she volunteered to help on this room and the last room in February!!!  She is an awesome volunteer!  :) I am hoping she comes to many more!!

Starting to come together...

Crafty, colorful bean jar assembled by volunteers....

Replica airplanes on display...

Another crafty volunteer project...a glass block painted Americana with white lights inside for a snazzy night lite or ambiance...

Accessories displayed and some finishing touches...

Some of our wonderful volunteers that make this all happen and come together so smoothly each month...

American history isn't complete without a fun flag...

New dresser and display items...

We always look forward to the lunchtime gathering of the volunteers...

I won a Giveaway!!

I know you all enter those Giveaways and wonder who really wins them???  Well, I did, and not only 1 but 2 different Giveaways!!   Yes, I won 2 times and you might as well say I won 4 times, since both giveaways had 2 prizes!!

No, I didn't win a Kitchen Aid or a really cool camera but I did win 4 fabulous gifts from 3 different bloggers.

The first gift I won was from One Krieger Chick for a custom made frame with my choice of coloring and monogram.  I chose a light gray theme and the letter "N".  I was definitely not disappointed when it arrived!!

In addition, this giveaway was offering the Reese handbag from Elle Elyse.

The bag is beautiful and so perfect for Spring.  I love the belted detail. The print pattern is on one side of the bag and the mustard color faux leather is on the other side.  Unique surprise!

I find it to be roomy and with nice pockets inside for my cell phone and pocket camera.

Thank You!! Thank You!!!

The second giveaway was hosted by Get Your Crap Together.
How exciting to have won again!!

This time I won 2 patterns of my choice from the Get Your Crap Together Etsy StoreI chose the Tiny Fabric Totes Pattern and the Kid Friendly Apron Pattern.  Both patterns (and more) are available for sale on in the Etsy Store for only $5 each!!!

These are my versions of the pattern.  The totes are a bit bigger than I thought they would be from the pictures in the Etsy store.  I was happy about that since I wasn't quite sure what I would put in really small ones!!

I chose 3 different fabrics for the different sizes and used the same pink for the linings for all.  They were easy to make and fast to put together.  Since I was rushing a bit when I made them, I forgot to put the interfacing in the large Black and White tote.  I was too lazy to take it apart so I continued without it.  You can tell in the picture that it isn't quite as stiff as the others....
SO DON'T FORGET THE INTERFACING!!

The Kids Apron Pattern was also another easy pattern to make.  I had some trouble following the pocket part of the pattern, but I used my common sense of sewing to figure it out....Again, I am happy with the result and I'm sure I can find a little young lady that would love to wear this!!

Thank You, Thank You and Thank You to One Krieger Chick, Elle Elyse and Get Your Crap Together!
