Burlap Wreath

This weekend I took a some time to do a little something for myself.

I found this tutorial on making a burlap wreath and got started...  I followed these easy to follow instructions and in less than and hour I was finished.

I used an 18" wire frame and a wood monogram "N" from Michaels.

Total Cost = Under $12.00!

Wire Frame - $5.00
Burlap Ribbon - $4.80
"N" - $2.00

Repainted Table in Chalk Paint

This mahogany side table with drop leaves used to be next to my favorite wing chair that I did most of my reading.  Fast forward 3 years...new house...dog claims wing chair...many nights on blogs and Pinterest...and on to repainting the table for a new look.

Thank Goodness Buddy claimed this chair....would you look at this thing??  I do have to say that it was very comfortable for reading though...

This isn't going to be another tutorial on how to paint with Chalk Paint or how great Annie Sloan is...this is just a before and after of my table painted.

I have read so much on blogs and Pinterest about how wonderful Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is, so I decided I needed to try it.  My husband was in the area of an Annie Sloan dealer one day so I asked him to pick me up a quart of Paris Grey and some Clear Wax.  No big deal, right?  Well, he came home and told me this paint better come with the painter since he spent over $75 on the products!  I almost died!  WOW!! Is that expensive!?!  I wasn't about to drive back out there to return it so I just used it anyway.

I didn't do much prep work, only scuffed it with one of those green pads and then painted.  The paint went on nicely and dried so, so quick!  I was able to apply the clear wax within an hour.  I didn't use those expensive brushes either, I used a cloth and waxed on and waxed off.  Easy peasy... and then repeated the process.

I sprayed the brass hardware with Black Rustoleum paint.

THEN... found this awesome, black rotary phone at a garage sale in Cape May last month and knew I had the perfect spot for it!  Nick is even going to hook it up for me so I can really use it!!  Yeah Nick!!  He can do anything!!

I do have to say that I am happy with the finish and the ease of this paint.  Since I have painted this, I have spoken to several people that told me I can make my own chalk paint.  I will be searching for some good "recipes", so leave a comment if you know of any good proven mixes.

Tony's Room Makeover

On March 23, 2013 I participated in another room makeover for Designing 4 Hope.  This month's room was for a young man Tony and his 2 brothers, Ryan and Braden.

Here is Tony's Story:

TONY
Tony is 13 years old and was born with Friedreich’s Ataxia but was not diagnosed until age 7. There is no medicine he can take or cure for his condition however he goes to CHOP to a neurologist and does PT and OT through the Easter Seals. He has issues with his balance, but thankfully no other major struggles at this time.

Tony loves American History with a special interest in George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty and Mt. Rushmore. Tony's makeover has been scheduled for March 23rd and we are pleased to have volunteers from Vanguard join us again!

Everyone arrived by 9:00am and unloaded the truck contents to the front yard....

Mattresses and all sorts of things that need assembly...

This month we are redoing 3 rooms!!!  Tony requested an American History Room, Ryan wanted a "soccer" room and Braden is all about Superheroes and Thor!!

BRADEN'S ROOM
Braden's room "Before"

Braden received some new bedding, window treatments and lots of fun wall art!

Thor has arrived!!!

Chris doing his impression of Thor!!  I think he nailed it!!

Braden is loving his "new" room!!

Braden and his little friend...Such a sweet smile!!

RYAN'S ROOM

Meanwhile, in Ryan's room the volunteers were busy ironing the window treatments, putting up rods, installing shelves, etc...

More busy volunteers building and installing...

Nick installing the headboard goal...

Floating shelves with turf were installed for various soccer balls...

Volunteers taking it all in as they are finishing up Ryan's room...

Looks like something you may find on Pinterest!

Nick being goofy, as expected!!

Lori, Sarah and Rebecca putting the Shelving and bed together...

Lots of building in the room...

I am so happy that Ginny could come today!  I haven't seen Ginny since High School (38 years ago!!) and she volunteered to help on this room and the last room in February!!!  She is an awesome volunteer!  :) I am hoping she comes to many more!!

Starting to come together...

Crafty, colorful bean jar assembled by volunteers....

Replica airplanes on display...

Another crafty volunteer project...a glass block painted Americana with white lights inside for a snazzy night lite or ambiance...

Accessories displayed and some finishing touches...

Some of our wonderful volunteers that make this all happen and come together so smoothly each month...

American history isn't complete without a fun flag...

New dresser and display items...

We always look forward to the lunchtime gathering of the volunteers...

More of the helpful volunteers that never let us down!!!
